Fire dampers containing asbestos – an update
Written on December 20 2021
In April 2021, we had already informed about the problem of fire dampers containing asbestos.
The Recommendations for Action of the GVSS (Gesamtverband Schadstoffsanierung) have since been widely used. In September 2021, two “low-emission methods” for functional testing of fire dampers containing asbestos were also published (AT 8.1 und AT 8.3). They thus supplement the Recommendations for Action with tested procedures that do not require individual approval by the authorities. However, they may only be used if certain general conditions are met. Therefore, the systematic inspection by the asbestos expert (see figure) is a precondition for the safe maintenance of fire protection systems.
