Landfills

Landfill space is already scarce in some regions. New sites must therefore be developed or existing landfill sites expanded. The introduction of the new Substitute Building Materials Ordinance is already leading to an increase in materials that have to be disposed of in landfill sites.

An operator or future operator requires comprehensive expertise in the fields of waste management, geotechnics, geology, hydrogeology and biology (special species protection assessment SaP).

For the operation or expansion/new construction of a system, it is an advantage if this expertise is available externally at one location.

Landfill site search

If the landfill is already in operation, the operator is subject to extensive documentation obligations in accordance with the Landfill Ordinance (DepV § 13, § 17 and Annex 5). In addition, an operator should have a complete overview of all geological, hydrogeological and waste data. Regular inspections as part of landfill monitoring are made considerably easier if the documentation of the facility is up to date.
