Georisks

What are geohazards?

Gravitational mass movements such as rock and boulder falls, rockfalls, landslides and debris flows occur not only in the Alpine region but also in low mountain ranges. As natural events with potentially damaging effects, they are considered a natural hazard. They become a geohazard with a high potential for damage if there are people, infrastructure or material assets in the process area. If danger spots and the associated risks are recognised in good time, preventive measures can be taken and personal injury and damage to property can be prevented.

How can geohazards be reduced?

If there is a suspicion of danger, the areas in question must be assessed by an expert. If the suspicion of danger is confirmed, the expert draws up a safety concept and specifies this in consultation with the client during the planning phase. We are certified to ISO 9001 as an inspection centre for slope and rock stabilisation and can draw on decades of experience in the field of geohazards throughout Germany. As experts and planners, we attach particular importance to a detailed investigation of the danger spots and develop customised safety concepts in order to keep both the scope of intervention and the construction costs as low as possible. As specialist construction supervisors, we monitor the professional implementation of the safety measures directly on the construction site. At the customer's request, we also work together with our other specialist departments on issues relating to nature conservation inspections and the disposal of demolition/excavation/excavated material - all from a single source.

Our services

  • GIS-based identification and prioritisation of suspected hazard areas

  • Assessment and inspection of suspected hazardous areas (e.g. rock faces, embankments and steep slopes); if necessary, using rope access technology and/or drone flights

  • Monitoring gravitational mass movements

  • Software-based modelling of rock and boulder falls (event simulations)

  • Hazard analysis with regard to protected objects

  • Planning and dimensioning of safety measures

  • Examination of nature conservation requirements

  • Preparation of execution and tender documents

  • On-site construction supervision and acceptance of construction work

  • Inspection (sighting, checking and testing) of Safety structures

  • Soil mechanical and rock mechanical laboratory tests according to DIN EN standards (together with our co-operation partner LGA)

Our competences

  • Certified inspection centre for slope and rock stabilisation (ISO 9001)

  • Experts for safety structures (Bayerische Ingenieurekammer-Bau, BayIK-Bau)

  • Experts for the operation, inspection and maintenance of flexible safety structures against natural hazards, SL-BIU (Geobrugg AG)

  • Rope access technician level 2 (Verein Deutscher Berg- und Skiführer, VDBS)
