Chrysotile belongs to the Asbestos Group and is also known as white asbestos. It is a fibrous layered silicate from the serpentine group.
In the past, chrysotile was mainly used for heat-resistant materials (e.g. Heat-resistant clothing, thermal insulation, seals, ropes) and to increase the material stability in Fibre cement boards (facades, roofs). But other areas (e.g. older bituminous sealing compounds and sealants in road and bridge construction, mortar, plasters, levelling compounds, etc.) may contain chrysotile asbestos, often in combination with PAH.
Therefore, when modernising and demolishing buildings and upgrading air conditioning and fire protection systems (Heating systems, Fire dampersetc.), especially in older buildings from the 1960s to 1980s. Expert investigation of the building fabric recommended.
